How It All Started

I’m Luke, and I run Tree Swift Goods. I’m a full-time maker and teacher focused primarily on kitchen knives. I work from a dedicated knife-making workshop on the Norfolk–Suffolk border, where I grew up. I began making knives in 2020 while also running a Thai food stall at festivals around England.

My interest started with bushcraft, while learning to sharpen knives, I realised I could make them myself. That discovery quickly became an obsession with creating beautiful, comfortable, high-quality tools.

After eight years in mobile catering, shifting my focus to kitchen knives felt natural. They’re the tools I use every day, and the ones people around me reach for most. For the past four years, kitchen knives have been at the centre of my work, and I’m always looking to improve both my making and my cooking.

I draw inspiration from Japanese knives without being bound by tradition. I believe in honouring what came before while adding something new. My designs combine modern high-performance steels with a variety of materials to create unique tools built to last a lifetime.

While there’s plenty of room for creativity in knife making, function always comes first. I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel, just apply my eye for simple, intentional forms to an everyday object. There’s something deeply satisfying about pared-down designs with clear purpose, and I know I’m not alone in my appreciation for this.
